Campo Largo 2 Wind Complex
Sento Sé e Umburanas, BA
Comprising 11 wind farms with 86 wind turbines each with and output of 4.2 MW, Campo Largo II will be ENGIE’s largest wind complex with an installed capacity of 361.2 MW. With power to be delivered to the free energy market, the project is being constructed adjacent to two other complexes: Campo Largo I (326.7 MW) and Umburanas (360 MW). ENGIE plans to obtain registration of Campo Largo 2 under the United Nations Clean Development Mechanism, so contributing to an increasingly clean energy matrix.
Work on the Campo Largo 2 Complex began in June 2019 following the issue of the installation license by the state of Bahia environmental protection agency, (Instituto Estadual do Meio Ambiente e Recursos Hídricos – Inema) and the National Artistic and Historical Heritage Institute (Instituto Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional – Iphan). The investment is estimated at R$ 2 billion and forecasts are for the first generator units to be operational by the end of 2020 with the final units fully installed in March 2021.
The electricity generated from the complex will be sold in its entirety to the free market. This implies that ENGIE is building this wind complex without the prior sale of energy through the medium of federal government sponsored auctions.
