ENGIE in Jirau
The 3,750 MW Jirau Hydroelectric Plant lies in Porto Velho, Roraima State, on the Madeira River. ENGIE, with its 40% share, is the majority partner in the consortium responsible for the plant. Operation and maintenance are entrusted to Energia Sustentável do Brasil (ESBR) – a Special Purpose Entity (SPE), whose equity capital is fully held by ESBR Participações S.A. The latter’s shareholders include ENGIE, at 40%, Eletrobras Eletrosul, at 20%, Eletrobras Chesf, at 20%, and Mizha Participações S.A., a Mitsui & CO., LTD. subsidiary, at 20%.
Use of the public asset for implementing the Jirau Hydroelectric Plant and exploring its energy potential was granted for a period of 35 years by means of Auction 005/2008, held by the Federal Government in May 2008.
